Hi, thanks for checking out my work! My name is Gianpaolo and I am a street photographer; or at least street photography is my natural way to approach the world with a camera, to observe it, to connect and play with it a bit.
I was born and raised in Italy and no, I didn’t start photography when I was a teenager with my Dad’s Leica, my Dad, unfortunately, doesn’t have a Leica. I have no idea when and how my passion about photography started; I just remember that while I was studying Architecture (yes, I hold a Master’s Degree in Architecture, a discipline that somehow still influences my photographs) I was obsessed with the photos of these amazing, modern buildings, showcased in magazines and books.
In 2010, I moved to Dublin, Ireland, where I am currently based. Here I had the opportunity to teach photography workshops in community development centres. Along the way, social documentary photography caught my attention and I started working on photography projects. Some of them have been published on websites/magazines such as lens.blogs.nytimes.com, NationalGeographic.it, Repubblica.it, Esquire Russia and they have also received recognitions like the Honourable Mention at the “IPA International Photo Award” and the Silver Medal at “PX3 Paris”.
It is possible that you may have seen me on the streets of some major cities like Amsterdam, Istanbul, New York, among others or more often in Dublin City Center, chasing lights, interesting characters or just waiting patiently in a corner, hoping for something interesting to happen. If you do, in the future, please come and say hello :)
Street photography is my main passport to travel and explore the world and learn about the society we live in. I believe that good street photography can reveal, often, something more than just ordinary street life.
